'Go Read'
Editorial/Richmond Free Press
Oct. 3-5, 2002 edition

"Go Read," the campaign to get all of the Richmond area to read the same book and talk about it, is an exciting project.

Following - and, we hope, building on - the experience of the "Go Fish" campaign, the "Go Read" campaign is likewise modeled after other cities that have successfully used the concept to get people to read, while stimulating them to come together and talk.

Achievement of this objective would amount to a great, big plus for Richmond and surrounding participating counties.

And it doesn't hurt that the book selected for the campaign is "A lesson before Dying" by Ernest J. Gaines. The issues of personal integrity, race, justice and capital punishment are central to the book's story - all of which are issues relevant to today's Richmond.

We encourage everyone to join this campaign - with the exciting opportunity for enlightenment and boundless experiences.
